Safflor yellow pigment is one of the most notable yellow pigment distribited among reddened flower (Carthamus tincrorius L.).According to colour tone ,the pigment is very similar to the pigment of saffron (Crocus sativus L.).(The saffron pigment is the most expensive natural colour in the world) An authentic safflor yellow pigment included three components: precarthamin (C44H44O24 the novel bichalcone glycoside),safflor yellow A (C27H31O15 the novel chalcone glycoside ),safflor yellow B (C48H54O27 the novel bichalcone ). Safflor yellow pigment is a mixture powder with an earth-yellow colour. UV spectrum of safflor yellow pigment showed its absorption maxima at 403nm in the water. Safflor yellow pigment is abtainable from the dried reddish-brown florets through special method using a water/ethanol system.Safflor yellow pigment is a water-soluble plant pigment and it is considered as a most useful yellow tinctorial additive for cosmetics , food , beverages,soft drinks,fruit jams etc. The cosmetics,food,drinks coloured with the dye have been used by high-ranking people because of its royal yellow colour.
